The Moment Between Survival and Surrender

Before I understood any of it, there was a moment I couldn’t explain at the time.

There are moments in life that don’t need explanation—just observation.

Today, I watched an eagle circling above the water, locked onto something below. At first, I didn’t understand what I was seeing.

Then it became clear.

A carp.

But not just any carp—this one was struggling.

For a while, it had been swimming awkwardly, turning partially upside down, drifting just enough to tell you something wasn’t right. It was still alive. Still moving. Still trying.

And the eagle knew.

It didn’t rush. It didn’t panic. It waited.

Circling.

Watching.

Timing.

Then it moved in.

What struck me wasn’t just the act

it was the timing.

The carp wasn’t gone yet. It hadn’t fully given up. But it was vulnerable. And in nature, vulnerability doesn’t go unnoticed.

There’s no judgment in it. No cruelty. Just reality.

The eagle doesn’t hesitate because it understands something we sometimes forget:

Life doesn’t pause while we struggle.

Watching that moment, I couldn’t help but think about how often we find ourselves somewhere in between—

Not fully down…

But not fully strong either.

Still moving.

Still trying.

But exposed.

And in those moments, the world doesn’t always wait for us to recover.

But there’s another side to this too.

Because if you zoom out far enough, you realize something else:

The eagle isn’t the villain.

The carp isn’t the failure.

They’re both just part of the same system.

One surviving.

One struggling.

Both playing their role.

Watching that moment, I couldn’t help but see something I hadn’t fully understood yet.

That vulnerability doesn’t stop the world.

And timing doesn’t wait for readiness.

But there’s a difference between reacting to it…

and learning how to stand still inside it.
